Beethoven's Leonore No. 2 (opening Trumpet Call)

Many versions of Leonore No. 2 can be found at Dr. Sidney Shuler's site, www.trumpetexcerpts.org

This version below is by the great Philip Smith (NY Phil), from his CD: Orchestral Excerpts for Trumpet . It also covers Leonore No. 3, which you can find here.

Jazzology playing Dark Eyes (Les Yeux Noirs) (mp3)

Here are some Gypsy Jazz masters playing the tune.

One of the amazing things about this is that the players all play (and harmonize) Django Reinhardt's originally improvised solo.

Dark Eyes (Les Yeux Noirs) sheet music (right-click to download):

Bb Trumpet (also clarinet, tenor sax, etc.) Or if that's too high, this one is an octave lower

mp3 Backing Track (courtesy of
Stephane Wrembel). The first three notes of the trumpet melody (B, A#, B) are pickup notes, and they're played before the entrance of the rhythm section.

It's fast. To slow it down, use Audacity. See how to slow a tune down using Audacity here.

But for now, because I'm nice, here are a four slower versions. You should learn how to do this yourself for other music you're practicing. It's really easy with Audacity. Took me less than 3 minutes to do these four examples:
90% speed
80%
70%
50%

If you want to play Dark Eyes with others:
C Instruments (piano, bass, guitar, etc.)
Eb Instruments (alto sax, etc.)
F Instruments (horn, etc.)

Here is a vast list of trumpet sheet music. Not comprehensive, but a great place to start looking if you're stumped for things to play or looking for examples for listening (for easier-to-find listening, see below).

Trumpet Music Discography: Another looong list of recorded music. Hyperlinked, so click to hear samples or get a copy for your collection.

It's a few years old, so there is lots of great new stuff out, like from trumpeter Avishai Cohen, for example
.
